Even a Cactus Needs Water:
The Importance of Staff Care
The emotional strain of working in the helping professions can cause burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. This impacts staff turnover, effectiveness and affects professional/personal lives. Without effective coping mechanisms caregivers can become frustrated, overwhelmed and immobilized. This experiential workshop is a three-layered approach to staff care; organizational, professional and personal. In addition to receiving information on topics such as vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue, participants will engage in exercises related to re-connection, spirituality and mindfulness practice.
Trauma-Informed Supervision
It is not uncommon in human services for excellent direct care staff to be promoted to a supervisory position without the skills and training needed to be a successful supervisor. This introductory course is designed for the new supervisor. This workshop will explore supervisory styles, competencies of trauma-informed supervision, and effective responses to burn-out, moral distress, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma.
Facilitating Effective Groups
This introductory workshop explores the stages of group development, types of groups; practical “do's "and “don'ts” of group facilitation, the importance of screening and matching groups, and best practices of a trauma-informed, gender-responsive approach. This workshop is designed for those new to group facilitation or those who have not had formal education and training in this area.
